Hi. The capacitor is really a standard electronic component. If you can measure the value (the capacitance, in microFarads), you can replace the original component with any capacitor with the same value. It would be a good idea to choose one that can handle 500 V. Electrolytics are not an option.

 

In the driver's instructions (general military motor vehicle instructions) for the use of these cars and others of similar vintage, there is a description of how to make your own capacitor from one or two chocolate bar wraps. I kid you not! You were supposed to be able to handle these situations, even if you happened to be separated from your unit.

54ekstrom is right, any capacitor from a similar ignition system will do.

 

Over time you should check the breaker points. Even wear and flat surfaces on both points indicates correct capacitor (capacitance). Pitting on one point and a cavity on the other indicates incorrect capacitance and the capacitor need to be replaced.
