vanenbegjutning - what does it mean in English

I'm translating the Volvo book 'Bandvagn 202 ett nydanande fordon'.

 

I'm stuck on the word "vanenbegjutning", which is translating as water casting.

The line is 

För slitageprovningen användes en rigg som medgav sand- och vanenbegjutning av styrtungorna.

It means that the track guides in the wear and tear-rig(/simulator) were washed over with water, just as for the sand in order to see the wear-performance for the track guides.

Does avbärare mean brighter bulbs in the indicators, or bigger indicator unit?

Avbärare refers to some sort of deflector or console that protects something.

If you look at the sides of Pltgb 903, Tgb 11 and Bv 202; they all have wooden strips on their sides, so called "avbärarlist", that reduces damage to the body if they come to close to trees and such.

The "avbärare" in your text seem to refer to the protective frame around the front lighting installations. In what chapter/book is that text?
