11 Pickup??

Volvo hade chassi som standardutförande och ett antal pickuper levererades bland annat till Vägverket. Det har säkert gjorts flera varianter, men Vägverkets var C304 4x4, det vill säga ser ut som "en elva-pickup" men har 253 cm hjulbas ist f 230 och 4.4 tons totalvikt i st f 3.3. Where is this 4400kg specified?

 

I too was once in the assumption that the 253cm pickup (Malaysia also got a 253cm 5-door semi-softtop!) was officially known as C304, but when researching all the 76 C3/4x4 firefighters, there were only 3 with a weight rating above 3500kg (3x 3900kg, 1x 3650)....and all 3 were a SWB C303/230cm....while all the pickup/253cm models were only 3450kg.

 

 

 

Would love to see some proof of a 253cm pickup with more than 3500kg, 4400kg would be *very* interesting.

 

(3900kg isn't that special, when looking at the 1900kg axle rating of a TGB20)

 

(C306/firefighters were rated at only 5500kg (Tollarp brochure), while most, if not all, have several kg's less (5300-5400kg)).

 

(but the brochure also lists a rear cargo room of 'euro-pallet' size, while none go beyond 100cm depth (Euro-pallet is 80x120)).

 

 

 

Also, what would then have been the axle-rating for this 4400kg model?

 

2x 2200kg?

 

Could be a rather interesting official data-point, to increase the load-rating on other C3-series....:))

 

And did it come with the 6.0:1 axle ratio, or 7.1:1?

 

 

 

 

 

Note that the parts manual only lists a 9-leaf rear suspension for the 253cm (pickup & Malaysian 5-door?)....4400kg would require quite a bit more.

 

(although the above mentioned 3650kg C303 came with 12 or 13 leafs....:))

 

(but it also had the tail lights moved below the bumper, otherwise it would conflict with traffic-regulations, I assume....:))

Shame, I thought that Vattenfall got a special configuration....:))

 

And I only need one registration number for actual proof/research....:))

 

 

 

Btw, the Malaysian configurations are still a bit fuzzy to me....their LWB 6x6 is called C304, not C306 (and it also had a 4sp, not 5sp....however, if the theory is correct that the C306 firefighters were based on the Malaysian LWB/6x6, then these LWB/6x6's were earlier than the TGB20 (C306 firefighters were officially launched in 1977), hence perhaps no 5sp available at that time yet?)

 

(proof of Malaysian 'connection': all C306 firefighters have a frame designed for both LHD and RHD....)

As far as I have understood all civil framings were both LHD and RHD prepared. Daniel.L has a 12 volt-chassis in parts and that framing has ears on both sides, but for different steering gears, not only left/right difference.

 

As I remember the Alfa Romeo Montreal had the ZF S5, right? Wasnt that car launched in the early 70´s, so that the 5 speed already was present at that time? The housing were almost at hand already, just a bit longer rear housing compared to the 4 speed had to be designed and the set of gears of course.
