Second gear is the secret, put it in gear and two seconds later assembly on the work bench. Thanks for the tip. The body is now off and about to go and be dipped, I hoping not too many unknown horrors will be exposed! I hadn't really planned doing a lot to the chassis but I'm now tempted to go the whole way and remove the axles, engine gearbox etc and have it dipped too. Living in Scotland there is a lot of salt used on the roads in the winter and it seems sensible to do a proper protective job having come so far.

Hello, and help Having acquired my Sugga (no. 45) in January, I have made the bizarre decision to remove the body and fully restore it. It is in surprisingly good basic condition (good door bottoms!) but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I have now completely stripped the bodyshell and removed everything and it is ready for the big lift - however this would be a lot easier without the gear stick in position. Herein is the problem - is it possible to remove the stick with the gearbox still in the vehicle? I had hoped that it would be possible to unbolt the top plate ( 6 bolts) and just pull the whole lot off; this however doesn't seem to be possible as the selector forks remain attached to something. Any ideas or hints would be much appreciated. Will
