New 9x17ET85 steel wheels

Hi guys,

After 4.5 months of research all over the planet, I have found a legal (with proper load certificate by DIN/ISO certified manufacturer) solution to get 9x17 steel wheels produced. I will have 6x5.5" bolt pattern with ET85 for myself, but I would be willing to have another version in original Volvo pattern produced aswell, if there are people interested.

Right now I will have only one sample produced for all to look and test. If there are potential buyers for the Volvo version, I would go ahead and finance a Volvo sample aswell, if not, I'll just get something done for my own needs.

As of now we are at around 350 EUR per wheel plus shipping to your country from Germany (or I'd say swap at a meeting...) with around 1000kg load, color black probably, but might be changed. Different offset would be no problem, ET80 to 85 would be my recommendation for 37x12.5R17 tires - which can be found at just about EVERY manufacturers portfolio on this planet.

Ok, now it's up to you.

Ciao,

P.S.: I don't earn a single dime at this price...

Don’t get me wrong here. I really do appreciate everyone’s effort and hard dedication to supply, and bring new parts to our beloved cars.

But rims at that prize, would be over 23% of the total value of my car. But on an unforeseen timetable I guess rims will be a problem to get hold of, and a solution needs to be found, and paid for.

I’m not sure if rims need to be “technical approved” here In Norway, need to check that part.

Nice that you got your car THAT cheap, though I doubt the value is still that low, after you have serviced and upgraded it over several years. Every trip to the gas station doubles the value of it :P

No, seriously, it's not cheap, but it's a custrom rim in otherwise not buy-able dimensions, anywhere in the world. So why should that be cheap...... Cheap is only stock standard, which is not the goal here :)

P.S.: BTW, if you bought a TGB today, your comparision would lead to MUCH different figures. Buy it outside Sweden or even Europe and you'll cry ;)

No, that was also not the intention of my reply :)

I just wanted to convey, that not everybody got his truck cheap and has no further plans with it, that would make it worth such modifications. Some have extensivley invested into their trucks and even though the price is no so low, it'd be just a minor aspect judging by the total cost of the project :)

E.g. in my case: Overland expedition vehicle. I suspect the total cost to be close to 50000 EUR in the final stage. It takes a few (haha) years to built, but I doubt the total amount of money will be much off. The actual Volvo is will be just a fraction in that project - at least financially ;)

Just imagine building something like this http://www.unicat.net/de/info/GBucherDuro6x6-Wil.html new and yourself :) New price (with used chassis!) for the above model is a quarter million. Waaaaayyy too much. But if you have built an expedition vehicle before, you know how things add up. I can do 99.9% of the workmanship myself, but all in all my estimate is pretty realistic. Unfortunately :) But hey, you live for months or even years in this vehicle... anywhere in the world, so it's quite a challenge and not the usual "camper". Talking full independence here, apart from Diesel and food.

I would love new rims on my car, but like many others, the price is on the high side. Could you ask the manufacturer what the price would be for lets say 10 sets (50 rims)? this might drive the prive down enough to attract the interrest of some of the other owners too  ;)

As soon as we agreed on a final design, I will try. But I already asked and it really didn't matter too much. 50% of the price is the outer ring with documents, so this price is more or less fix. Sure, maybe we can save another 20 bucks on the center disk and organise shipping ourselves... but a legal 17" rim will still be expensive :( You can get custom 16" for about 200 EUR, but 16" is really not my goal... We'll see, you'd probably need stock Volvo pattern I suppose?

As a result of lengthy design discussions my specs are now off to the tech department for final CAD drawing. Next after a quick review of the fina design will FINALLY be the production of the first test wheel.

Preliminary data as follows: 9x17ET100 (the new hubs or the disc brake conversion will correct that to about ET80 to fit 12.5" wide tires), probaby 1000+kg load rating, 6x5.5" stud pattern with M14/60° acorn.

You have the sizes in inches or is it actially the 315/75R16? For this one I found 75lbs, so the weight of the rim would come out as around 22kgs.

I will keep on googeling. We're now at 24kgs for the 9x17ET100 wheel, that's why I'm asking. Looking to reduce that some more, but maybe I will rather opt for strength than for weight... seems to be very comparable to the stock wheel.
